The editor's role
Grid broadcast its specificity. Edit and prepare pieces for publication.
In the editing technique, there are three types of editorial reading:
introductory,
in-depth,
control.
Introductory (fast) reading involves evaluating the integrity of the text, its design. Attention is given to the general content, the idea of the text, the manner of presentation. This reading is non-stop on details.
During deep (slow) reading, attention is directed to the perception of each word and sign of the text. There is an analysis of individual units of text, working to create its integrity. With in-depth reading, a repeated return to read, a correlation of parts of the text, work on detailing is carried out.
The final, control reading is the "grinding" stage of editorial work on the text, the final reading of the entire text or its individual parts, checking the uniformity of the submission of factual material, the correctness of writing the names of own, specified dates and figures, their accuracy, reliability, and justifiability.
Editorial analysis of the text is carried out in the following sequence:
  • Determination of the target readership to which the text is intended.
  • Refinement of the author's intention.
  • Identifying the correspondence between the topic and the idea (is the topic correctly identified?).
  • Defining editing tasks.
  • The division of the author's text into semantic parts, the identification of logical connections between them (is there any escape from the topic, semantic contradictions?), Drawing up a plan.
  • Analysis of the structural parts of the text, the selection of key words and basic judgments, taking into account the specifics of the text and the peculiarities of the author's style of presentation (how justified are judgments, whether there are false conclusions and hasty generalizations).
Predicting the results of reading.
